Docs & FAQ

Vestige opti is built around a simple idea: every tweak shows you exactly what it changes, and every change can be undone. This page covers the common questions. For anything else, email support@vestigeopti.com.
Getting started
1. Download & install
Run VestigeOpti.exe. There's no installer — it's a single
portable executable. Right-click → Properties → Unblock if Windows
SmartScreen warns about it (we're not code-signing yet; that's coming).
2. Activate
Paste the license key from your purchase email. The app checks online once, binds to this PC's hardware fingerprint, and unlocks the full tweak surface.
3. Take a snapshot first
Open the Backups tab → "Snapshot current state". This captures every Windows setting Vestige can touch into a single restore point. Do this before your first batch of changes. You can roll back in one click.
4. Apply a preset (or browse individually)
The Presets tab has curated stacks like "Latency-first competitive gaming" or "Streamer (OBS + capture)". Pick one and hit Apply, or browse the Dashboard tab and toggle individual tweaks. Every tweak has a description and an Undo button.
5. Reboot when prompted
A small banner appears if any tweak you just applied requires a restart. Some take effect immediately (NVAPI driver profiles, process priority), some need a reboot (HVCI changes, scheduling category).
FAQ
Will Vestige get me banned in Valorant / CS2 / Apex / Fortnite?
No. Vestige is built specifically around the kernel anti-cheats those games use (Vanguard, Easy Anti-Cheat, BattlEye, FACEIT). Every tweak in the app is one a publisher would consider a normal Windows setting — registry entries, NVAPI driver profiles, scheduling categories. We do not kill services, load drivers, or hook into game processes. If a future anti-cheat update flags any tweak, we remove that tweak in the next release.
Does Vestige need admin rights?
Yes — most useful Windows tweaks are HKLM registry keys or driver-level operations that require admin. The app prompts via UAC at launch. We do not request "always-elevated" permanent admin status.
What happens if a tweak breaks something?
Open the Backups tab and restore the snapshot you took before. Or restore an individual tweak — every change has its own per-setting undo.
Can I use Vestige on two PCs?
Each license is for one PC by default. If you replace a PC or rebuild, email support@vestigeopti.com and we'll unbind the old hardware fingerprint so you can activate on the new machine. There's no charge for this — it's just to prevent casual key-sharing. Multi-seat licenses (for cyber-cafes or households) are available on request.
What if I'm offline?
Vestige works offline for 24 hours after its last successful online check. After that it returns to the activation screen until you reconnect.
Does Vestige collect data on what I do?
No. Every applied tweak, preset, and log entry stays on your local disk. The licensing server only sees your license key (hashed), a hardware fingerprint hash, your IP, and the build version of the app. See the Privacy Policy for the full breakdown.
Will Vestige improve my FPS?
Honestly: maybe. FPS is mostly bottlenecked by GPU and CPU, neither of which Vestige changes. Where Vestige helps reliably is frametime consistency (less stutter) and input-to-photon latency (the part of "feels snappy" that's purely Windows side). On systems with HVCI off, USB selective-suspend on, or a refresh-rate mismatch, the Analysis tab will surface specific fixes that move the needle.
Does Vestige work on Windows 10 or only Windows 11?
Both, 64-bit. We test on the latest Windows 11 24H2 and the still-supported Windows 10 22H2.
How are updates delivered?
The app checks for a new build on launch. If one's available, it tells you and links to the download. Updates are free for the lifetime of your license.
What's the difference between Vestige and free guides on Reddit?
The tweaks themselves overlap a lot. Vestige's value-add is:
- Every change applied in one click, not 40 minutes of regedit copy-paste
- Snapshots and undo (forum guides have no rollback)
- Tweaks vetted against current anti-cheat policies (a 5-year-old guide may include things publishers now flag)
- Documentation of exactly what registry key or NVAPI call each tweak makes, so you can verify yourself
- Per-game profiles that combine the right subset for each title
Is there a Linux / macOS version?
No. Vestige is Windows-specific because the kernel anti-cheats most competitive games use are Windows-only. Cross-platform isn't on the roadmap.
Troubleshooting
"Activation failed"
Check that your firewall isn't blocking VestigeOpti.exe from
reaching api.vestigeopti.com. Try a different network if
possible. If the issue persists, email support — we can manually unbind
and reissue if the licensing server saw a transient error.
"This license has been revoked"
Most often this means a chargeback was filed on the original purchase. If that's not the case, it could mean someone shared the key and another activation tripped the cap. Email support and we'll sort it out.
"This license is bound to another PC"
A new hardware fingerprint was detected (replaced motherboard, new install, cloned drive, etc.). Email support and we'll unbind the old one. Takes about an hour during business hours, US Central time.
Frametimes got worse after applying tweaks
Roll back the last preset from the Backups tab. Then re-apply one at a time until you find the culprit. Email us the tweak name and your hardware specs and we'll investigate.
